Last month, council agreed to create an ordinance for mobile food vehicle licensing, which would create regulations for mobile food trucks. Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said the borough received a few requests for food trucks along the trail and within town.

Twenty-seven people were successful write-in winners of Democratic and Republican nominations for borough and township offices in the primary election held on May 16. The results of the tabulation of write-in votes was completed this week by the Carbon County Elections Bureau headed by Lisa A. Dart, director, with some of the nominations establishing general election races that previously were unopposed. In other cases, candidates who appeared unchallenged on one ballot, solidified their election chances by winning a nomination on the opposing side.

After nearly an hour of impassioned personal accounts from residents and business owners detailing how tax increases would harm them, Jim Thorpe Area School District's board of education voted for a continuance on the appeals at Monday's meeting. Approximately 150 homeowners and business owners in the area pleaded with the board to put a stop to the tax appeals.

After eight events, the South Carbon County seniors are continuing their lead in the 2017 Carbon County Senior Games with a score of 462. Monday's event was miniature golf at Heisler's Dairy Bar in Tamaqua due to a washout on Friday that forced the games coordinator to switch things around a bit.

Carbon County's request for 10 bagged parking meters in downtown Jim Thorpe may be met by the borough, but not without a cost. Last fall, the borough approved bagging three meters in front of Molly Maguires Pub and Steakhouse during a one-day trial run for the county's transition to a central court system for its preliminary court hearings.

A Carbon County man was a victim of homicide Tuesday and an Easton resident is in custody and charged with the killing. Yesterday morning, prior to 7 a.m., emergency personnel and law enforcement agencies responded to Lindner's home where he was found deceased in the basement.

Panther Valley High School students were dismissed early from class Monday morning after police received a lead that inferred a student was planning violence. Superintendent Dennis Kergick said that at about 7 a.m., he received a phone call from the disciplinarian at the high school/junior high who informed him there were several police departments on site.

A past candidate for state representative said he was assaulted Saturday while attending a speech by President Donald Trump in Harrisburg. Trump supporters removed Neil Makhija, a Jim Thorpe attorney, from the arena inside the Farm Show and Expo Center before local police stepped in, according to a Facebook post he made after the event Saturday night.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Isaiah Moore-Brown, 28, of Jim Thorpe, was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on crack cocaine trafficking, cocaine trafficking, and firearms charges. According to U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, the indictment charges Moore-Brown with conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 28 grams of cocaine base , and with possessing with the intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine, from Dec. 1, 2012, through Jan. 11. Moore-Brown also is charged with possessing a firearmand with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

Vehicular homicide charge in 903 crash

A Jim Thorpe man who was the driver in a crash that killed two Albrightsville teens in 2015 has been charged with vehicular homicide. Charges were filed by Pennsylvania State Police at Fern Ridge against Tegan Lestat Kane, 19, of Rhododendron Circle, on Monday in the deaths of Jasmine Fonseca, 15, and Taylor Shepherdson, 16, both cheerleaders at Jim Thorpe Area High School.
